Is there anyone here who went from a stock early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8 dual quad core to a base 12 core machine? If so, what kind of improvement did you get in Lightwave?

more or less the speed increase for rendering will be pro rata to the additional cores added so from eight to twelve means it should take around sixty percent of time it would have before, I have a 3GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon and a Six core 2.93 GHz one and the faster one despite what I've just said often feels more like it's twice as fast because more cores can get you past bottlenecks in processing that are a drag on the slower one.

Here is another benchmark from erikals which quite a few have tried.

Mac Mini 2.0Ghz 16:25

W5580 3.2 GHz 1:45

Mac Mini 2.0 Ghz 2:58
940 @ 3.588 GHz 31.6
E5450 3.0 GHz 28.9
W5580 3.2 GHz 17.9

A single 940 OC a bit renders about the time as two E5450 CPUs!

For heavy radiosity calculations the current CPUs are very quick.
