View Full Version : Inertia driving me bonkers... any tips?

I am using inertia to have a glowing streak behind a sword. Seems to work okay until I parent the sword (and inertia object) to my characters hand. The object seems to follow the hand just fine, but after a while, the trail created from inertia goes crazy and is no where near the sword. Any tips?

Partially figured this out. What is causing the problem is using a bone as a parent. If I parent the inertia object to the bone's goal object (a null), it works fine. Its just a bummer that this will cause me to have to manually adjust the object to follow the rotation of the hand with many key frames.. unless anyone has an easier approach?

Lesson learned, next time I'll have my bones follow the orientation of the goal object and save the hassle.

Complete your character animation first. Then match your null to your bone goal and bake the motion out.

In general it's best to get animation done first and then do your fx work last. This way you can focus on one thing at a time.
