View Full Version : GeForce4 Ti4200 vs QuadroFX 500?

Hi people!

I'm considering buying a new PC (dual Xeon) which comes with a QuadroFX 500 - anyone have any experience with this card? I know it's based on the GeForceFX 5200 chipset which is the bottom end of nVidia's current lineup.

I'm planning on selling my old PC which has a kick-*** GF4 Ti4200 (SoftQuadro'ed into a Quadro4 750 XGL and overclocked to Quadro4 980 XGL speeds :D) and I'm not sure whether to lose the Ti4200 or to keep it and ditch the QuadroFX 500...

Suggestions? Anyone seen any benchmarks for the QuadroFX? The GeForceFX 5200 seems to be selling for a lot less than the Ti4200's - should that be telling me something?

Digit Mag had a benchmark on these cards a while ago. If you pick up their mag and in the back [if memory serves me correct] there should be a list of hardware they reviewed, it will give you the pros and cons.

Thanks for the info WizCraker - I think I'm leaning towards keeping the Ti4200 - my investigations on the 'net have shown that the QuadroFX 500/GeForceFx 5200 has more in common performance-wise with the GeForce4 MX range - I think I'd be taking a step back using the QuadroFX 500...

Actually we updated all of our modelers and TD artists to the Quadro FX 500 cards. They has seen at least a 20 to 30% increase when dealing with scenes that are 1.2 million polys or more and also when have scenes with 30 Megs or more of textures. Well worth it. The tough decision we had was FX500 or FX1000.

What graphics cards were you using before?

I would vote for Quadro. I use the baby sister NVS 200 dual with not a problem. I use a Ti4200 at work, doesn't seem as snappy and not a dual.

that is all...
happy hunting...

Well what I'm really asking is - is a QuadroFX 500 better than a Quadro4 900 XGL 'cause that's effectively what I've got...
