View Full Version : Rigs for different meshs & using motion files

Although I've been using LW for several years I'm a newbie to character animation rigs. I've learned quite a bit from the variety of tutorials on You Tube and successfully rigged a character and did some simple animations with the character.

My question is regarding using my existing rig with a different mesh. Is there a tutorial that explains how this is done?

My next goal is to use .bvh files to make my character move. Any tutorials or info on that would be very helpful as well. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

To change rig into a new mesh, first off... just replace the existing mesh with a new one. As for refitting the rig to fit the new proportions, you basically have to do it by hand, moving/rotating all the parts properly, having them lined up right, moving targets, goals, etc, as appropriate.

Working with bvh... in LW there's really not many options (basically none that are much use or work well). Its much easier to use an FBX based skeleton/workflow sending your character out to another package for retargeting, before bringing that motion back to LW.

Tutorials for this are on my site, as for external mocap apps... ull want to maybe grab animeeple while its still available, or give ikinemas weba animate a peek.

Unfortunately it appears the animeeple product is no longer available.
We're looking at using the ikinema middle in our pipeline.
