Does anyone know of a sphere packing plugin laying around out there someplace. In particular one that maximizes the packing inside a sphere? I'm really not in the mood to write one if one already exists.

Hi Tim,

I've been looking for this for a long time. I've found some java applets that can pack 2d circles (and I've used that for some stuff a long time ago) but for lightwave nope...I could have used that a few times in the past.

I wrote one for a N-Body proof of concept code base I did years ago and did not enjoy. Sadly while I know where the final movie for the demo is I can not find my code just for that demo. What we really need is a LW solution that allows packing of any object(s) within an object. I think I found a hack to do this thanks to Eki. Will keep you updated.

thanks. really. because I do a lot of advertising stuff (prints mostly) sometimes I need something like that. Once I had to pack a heart with diamonds (it was a 2d packing but with 10 different sizes...) and it was a nightmare. Like I said I found some java applet and I used it to pack circles and then I used this as a template for the diamonds...but boy was it boring and tedious.

Sphere packing ? What do you mean by that ?
edit : Never mind, found it on wikipedia.
I'll have a look as well if I can find anything usefull!

It would be good if you did write one aurora, could be fun to use.
