View Full Version : Non-Planar polygons in subpatch ? Is this normal or a bad technique ?

Hello All;
I am trying to create some subpatched objects like a Mars Rover. See attachment.

I am familiar with the process and tools but no matter whether I use box modeling or the detail-out approach, I always easily generate non-planar polygons and lots of them. Is this normal or could my technique be wrong ? Is there anything I should avoid doing when subpatching to avoid non-planar polygons ? Thanks.

Non-planars can often occur when building objects that will be subpatched. Once those non-planars are subpatched, though, they should no longer be listed next to "Non-planar" in the Statistics window ('w').

what's you problem with non-planars? It's a bit impossible to have a round shape made of planars :S What you have with subdivision are cool non-planars that give you predictable results.

Non-Planar Ngons though can be a big issue thought rendering wise. Cheers
