When is LW11 coming out? NT just says "expected to ship in Q4" but it's been Q4 for over 2 months now...

Everybody knows Q4/11 means Q1-Q4/12. I mean, that's just basic stuff...and for any company BTW. :D

I wonder if LW11 final release will come with some extra goodies/features not seen in pre-release?

I was about to ask the same thing. From now on it's better for NT to stop with release date statements, it would be better if they say: "Lightwave 11 will be released. At some point. Of your hollow lives."

"In business, Q4 means the fourth quarter of the year. Typically that would be the months of October, November and December, unless the context is some company or organization's fiscal year, which may not correspond to the calendar year."

I would rather wait 6 months extra for a full bug free " if there is such a thing " app , who cares about deadline date , just give me a freakin cool piece of software .

Q4 is not over until 31 Dec 2011. Expect to see yearly releases at the end of each Q4 from now on. (i.e. LW11, LW12, LW13, etc) I'm talking about full releases here not point releases. Point releases, if there are any, will come out whenever.

I was told by someone in sales to expect the release by the end of December or thereabouts.

"or thereabouts" is more accurate in NewTek terms. thereabouts = "anytime 2012"

I'd rather Newtek grind the team into pulp in October to get the release out. Rather than waiting until the Christmas holidays to do it.

Shoot for August. Then snap the whip and beat the drum until it's done in October. Take a breather. Then Jan 7th, back to work on the point release you know that is inevitable.

Q4 is not over until 31 Dec 2011.

Yeah, so wait till you sing that whatever it is sung on new years, greatly enhance your dialoging capabilities with lots of booze, and post your magnificent eloquence of a great intellectual thesis on what you really think of NewTek for once again not meeting their promised deadline of delivery of their product.

...Then after you recover from your hangover and discover what you posted, realize they actually met their promise.

...Then hide for a month and come back and pretend nothing happened...
:D

I'm sure Newtek would rather hear "we can't wait until you release version abc.xyz" instead of "can't believe you guys rushed this out and it doesn't work!"
Be patient...the longer it cooks the better!

LW 10 is a terrible example to follow...please NT: don't let LW 11 out the same way, we're willing to wait till it's really baked.

Everybody here does realize you can buy it now, yes? In other words if you really want to use it now, there is no need to wait for the 'final' release date.

as to quote SBowie, though...
"we still have to see if you qualify to own LW11. To determine this, you will need to pass through the twelve labours of Hercules (otherwise known as our pre-release sales process). You will need to do this first frontwards, and then backwards .... blindfolded .... with your wrists handcuffed to your ankles and while whistling the TriCaster song with a mouthful of crackers. If you successfully complete this ordeal, we might just be willing to take your money. In that event, you will be notified in the fulness of time by telepathic message. "

I know... It's difficult but do it anyway and stop complaining... but I usually get LW from academic superstore.com because I qualify for the discounts offered, and who knows when they'll get it...

as to quote SBowie, though...In all fairness, though, that quote is now past its 'best before' date. CS and MIS worked long and hard on resolving the issues, and as far as I am aware, things are much smoother now.

OK, glad to know that... Just trying to put a little humor on the situation... (correction, a lot of humor- that quote was really funny)

I don't know what do you want from LW v10.0. It's the best in comparison to LW v9.0, LW v8.0 at least..

I am very pleased because of this one fixed today
https://fogbugz.newtek.com/default.asp?36113_9lqs60m5
(it was waiting since LW v9.6 betas)

If they will also make this one

(correction, a lot of humor- that quote was really funny)'To err is human ... to pretend otherwise, vain'. In my personal view, when a shortcoming is obvious, failure to own up to it often does more damage than the original problem. (The former may negatively affect a transaction, but the latter can ruin a relationship.)

Agreed... I would rather have someone own up to it than to sweep it under the rug. But its also being human, some people just don't or can't admit to a mistake. I guess you could say that is part of the character building, some people just happened to miss the course that all. LOL.

I am talking in general, not pointing at any specific person.

I AM never wrong I'll think you'll find. Just mis-informed, lacking the required details, or some other reason which has nothing whatosever to do with me personally of course.

Ahh, it's so hard being right all the time. ;) :p

have there been any improvements on the native lens flare system? they need to work on that...

-but soft, behold!

100627

If you look closely, you'll see that the lens reflections get cut off when the spaceship ends. That's because I matted the flare to a track matte of the alpha channel. If I took the alpha channel away, then the flare wouldn't fade when it goes behind the ship later in the animation.

OnlineRender

you do if you add zdepth/mask based on the alpha and track to a null , also try "add" to the layer or duplicate the lens flayer comp and work it from there ..

Are you referring to the "add" transfer mode?

I've got a better Idea. Have the native LFs in LW on "Central Glow" with none of the other bells and whistles, then render to OpenEXR, and then in AE set the project to 32bpc and set the lens flares to "Track luminosity".

32bpc increases the realism so that every white surface doesn't generate a lens flare. I think this tactic works well because it also generates lens flares for caustics, corona, bloom, etc.

Isn't it a bit crazy that the development team works their butts off finish LW11 by the end of the month only to have the launch held up by other factors. You would think that it would just be a case of having everything else ready for the launch and then handing off the Gold build of LW11 to post for people to download. :grumpy:
