I've had some involvement in a really interesting little project over the last year that's finally been let out into the wild. It's weird, it's creepy and it's Sci-fi-ish and I don't want to say much more beyond that regarding the content.

It's an ARG (alternate reality game) for *something* coming out next year. A few people who've met me via London Lightwave might know what this is, but please - no spoilers!!

Here's some links:

The first site - and starting point: http://youwillbecome.us/ (http://youwillbecome.us/between.htm) - and if you dig around, you'll find 2 other videos ;)

A twitter feed (https://twitter.com/#!/Reificant) by "Reificant".

A website (http://lewisfoods.us/) revealed in an email sent out from the YouWillBecomeUs site. There are other sites out there too...

And more, if you want to dig around!

If you want to dive in and see what other people have found out so far, it's actively being discussed on some other forums

A Something Awful thread (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3446344) - some serious detective work going on there!

Unfiction (ARG site) forum thread (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=909868)

A Wiki (http://argwiki.goonsquad.org/p/Main_Page) has been set up for it by some ARG goons.

There's a lot more wild and wacky stuff planned. So please check it out - and enjoy!

The guy I've been working with on this is some kind of twisted genius. The rabbit hole goes deep indeed.

Yeah, that was a nice one. It really came together well. John - the director - is a really interesting (and talented) guy. He directed the film version of "The Road".

Just to let you know, since I posted this thread, it's all out in the open. The ARG was for an upcoming novel called "LIMINAL STATES".
The book's official site is live now: www.liminalstates.com - so go check it out!
And there's a facebook page, if you're into that sort of thing :)

Thanks! There's more video work in the pipeline - expect something interesting to kick off the start of the prequel serial in February ;)

If you fancy trying to snag an advance reader copy of the book, Zack (the author) is giving away free copies every day this week on the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Liminal-States/135217119921083

A new trailer is online now, called "Please remain calm". I had a lot of fun making this - it even creeps *me* out now watching it. So job done I think!

And the first part of the prequel serial is up too - here: http://www.liminalstates.com/serial.htm

The book was released last week. And there's a launch trailer: http://www.liminalstates.com/032712a.htm

This trailer revealed one more final nugget of information: I've been working on a short film based on the book, which is going to be released on the 16th April. We just finished shooting at the last location - in Almeria, Spain. All the footage looks amazing - we shot it on Alexa and RED. So watch the trailer, and tune in to the website on the 16th to see the short film!!

Oh - and for some awesome freebies, join the facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Liminal-States/135217119921083

The book is really good BTW. We have had some great reviews so far. Cory Doctorow loved it - and apparently William Gibson's reading it now!!

Is this what's required to sell books nowadays; obscure teasers and hyperbole?

The description of the book is intriguing. The cheap looking site however, combined with the music, videos and teaser stuff completely put me off. It just doesn't seem to blend together very well.

Just my opinion, of course.

It's a damn fine book. In fact, I've sunk a reasonably large chunk of money into making this short film solely because I liked the book so much. But don't trust me - there's a plethora of reviews online now!

And yes, for first-time authors, you need to do everything you can to stand out from the crowd. I'd love the idea that a well-written book will become an automatic success, but the truth is far less kind than that.

Oh - and there's some really awesome CG in the film too - all done in Lightwave 11 (we made heavy use of instancing for it!)

You can see some of it in the trailer. There's a lot more in the short film. Hence the fact I'm about to grit my teeth and try and set up screamernet with LW11 on our network. Wish me luck - I'll need it (damn you butterfly net render for not having an OSX controller!)

The short film is up. Lots of Instancing goin' on for the opening CG scenes!

It is 1874 and Gideon Long is dying. Wandering the savage desert of the New Mexico Territory, he craves a last drink before he bleeds out. On the brink of madness, he discovers a place best left forgotten and makes an insidious bargain: escape his fate and incur a debt too great for one man. His country will pay the price over the twisting course of more than a century and Gideon will learn there are worse things to bargain with than the devil.

Hope you enjoy it. It's a strange beast, it kind of evolved out of a trailer, so the story might be a bit opaque. But as a mood piece, I hope you get a kick out of it!

Intriguing mix of images and influences... Love the cgi sequences.
Is "something awful" a reference to David Bowie's Breaking Glass on Low?
Liminal States has some fantastic cinematography. Plenty of enigma and unanswered questions to keep watching.
