View Full Version : LW was used on...

I was just reading the promo page for LW and what it was used on. There were two serious omissions in my opinion.

I have recently, (last 3months), read two articles in international 3D/CG type mags which gave coverage to the use of LW for one, in the final episode of Buffy.

Secondly, it was used pretty extensively in the production of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Being used to produce the invisible man scenes, and in particular about the particle system being used to produce an effect where the invisible man is made visible using snowflakes. Other effects were also produced for the invisible man, plus the rendering for this was also done in LW.

These should be included. (Perhaps NewTek is waiting to see how well the League... goes?).

Or they have not had time to add it.

The negative reviews for LXG have possibly put them off a bit :P

On the other hand, the buffy stuff was amazing for a tv budget, and it was a solid case of switching to LW because Maya couldn't cope with the demands of the fx.

We know of a number of projects that we need to add to the list - should be updated shortly!

... But I think you should add the Korean animation "Wonderful Days" to the list, as well as the Japanese animations such as "Last Exile"... Just wondering if Zoids also is made with Lightwave? Oh, and don't forget SD Gundam on the Cartoon Network - 100% Lightwave 3D.

But to be honest, in some of the listed projects LW was only used for previz (Jurassic Park for example); it's not always the most sexy stuff associated with some of the movies.

But on the other hand it was used for some of the very sexy stuff, like DUNE, so that shows it can be used in all sorts of areas...

Of course, no doubt. Another sexy example is the David Fincher Adidas spot DD did: http://www.luxology.net/article/092302_DigitalDomain/page1.aspx

LW was used in jurassic park for pre-vis ... I tihnk mainly for figuring out how the dinosaurs should move.

This is of course because Amblin (I think that's what Steven speilbergs company was called?) used Lightwave for SeaQuest DSV at the time.
