View Full Version : Motion Designer vX

Had this on my hard drive for a while now, thought I'd share it. It started out as an interface clean-up exercise, but ended up adding a little functionality to make selecting target / collision objects easier/quicker.

It's still Motion Designer as we know it, not a far-fetched incarnation of it, probably do this totally different with the new v8 dynamics tools.

Main Interface
Re-organised, everthing in one window, neater.

Can be collapsed . . .

Setting up . . .
90% as it is now, just changed how you setup target/collision relationships.

All valid scene items in left list . . .

Drag and drop items into collision / target lists (multiple selection supported, also right mouse click options such as 'select all' etc.)

Activate / de-activate items by clicking 'tick' icon in lists . . .

Setting up collision relationships by selecting an object . . .

. . . and then alt-clicking 'relationship' objects in list (bright selection = active object, darker selections = grouped collision objects (Further functionality could be supported using right mouse clicking, such as 'select all other objects' etc.)

Property editing done straight in the listview gadget, no need for extra space for gadgets (note - mini-description of what the property affects!)

The rest pretty much works as it does now! I'm not an expert in Motion Designer, so there will almost certainly be some stuff I've missed/assumed wrong, but this was a first hit at it!

so Matt. How far did you get with Newtek and your interface ideas?

Sorry dynamic_cloth! if I knew how to code this as a plugin I would have done it already! Alas they're just screen mockups!

luka well, before SIGGRAPH there was talk of attending an interface workshop, but no dates were ever confirmed, it's been quiet ever since, obviously NT are busy with v8, if something were to happen after that - who knows, it's down to NT.

Meanwhile I'm going to keep going, I enjoy it! I plan on doing more Flash-based simulations in future, I think they show off the ideas better.

I've also updated the look a little, making the gadgets / timeline / tabs etc. smaller, as screen space was a issue with the old vX interface.

Here's a small sample (sporting the blue / grey look ala SIGGRAPH!)

(previewng a message apparently removes attached images! doh!)
