View Full Version : moving points question

Does anyone know if there is some tool or plugin in LW that let's you move points while keeping the shape of the geometry? It's really annoying and time consuming when you have to relax geometry on a curved surface if you have to do it with ordinary move tool.
Here's a small example of what i mean. In Modo this tool is called Smudge brush, with this brush you just move points around and they follow the spheres shape. This make's it fast and easy to rearrange topology.
Any help appreciated!

Try the ; key and then RMB drag to adjust the sphere of influence. Much more intuitive and works better in my opinion than the Modo offering.

Now then after you see how this works. Go to the Modify tab and click on the Drag tool. N on your keyboard to access the Numeric panel. Change the fall off to Point Radial and you have the Drag Net tool essentially.

How have a look at all of the other modify tools and play with the various fall off settings and you'll find many of the tools are made out of the basic move rotate and scale tools with different fall off settings. They have something similar to this in Modo as well.

There is of course the manual and a whole lot of free video tutorials on modeling tools here as well.

DE Edge slide and PointOnMove are must have plugins for anyone doing any retopology in LWM and much more :). I just with we have "poly slide" plugin but didn't find any so far and i asked to NT many many times to make native "slide" tool.

Funny I didn't get edge slide at all from that. I think I did not read correctly the post and was thinking of another Modo tool that is similar to dragnet.

But yeah sliding tools are completely absent in Modeler. One of the many needed improvements.
