View Full Version : Mesh from an outline?

Hi everyone.

I'm not exactly sure how to word what I'm trying to do, but here we go.
I've got an image that's all white with some black lines arranged in a symbol on it.

I'd like to take the lines and sort of "extrude" them from the page and get rid of the remaing white area so that I'm left with sort of a 3D cut out of the lines.

I know that's kind of hard to understand, but is there a way of doing this?

Trace the shape with the Bezier tool and extrude the shape?

If it's an Illustrator file you could import the eps file. Modeler can convert it to lines or polys.

The other trick would be to stack up a bunch of polys and use the black and white image as a clip map. You won't have true geometry but with all the polys stacked on top of each other you'll get the illusion of geometry along the sides.

That technique was used on the first Fairly OddParents clip on this page:

The animation is a 2D sequence. It would be nuts to trace each frame to make an extruded object for an object sequence.
