In Modeler is there any way to wrap a sheet of paper around a sphere? --actually, I want it partly wrapped, so the center of the paper remains flat.

TrueArt's Modeling Pack http://modelingpack.trueart.eu
has interactive tool Push.

Make a Morph

Modify tab>Transform>More> Wrap Sphere (Make the inner and outter radius the same value.)

Go back to base morph, select the points you want to change and "Apply Morph"

Thanks but the morph approach is more work than it's worth in this case. What I wanted to do was to curve the edges of a flat plane so it would more-or-less match up with a tube. I'm just gonna leave this one as-is.

I learned from this that when possible, I've got to start designing things with an underlying uniformity so objects made for one use could be connected to an object made at a later time. Up to now, instead of planning ahead as to how much geometry an object might need, and designing it with a particular sized grid, I've been using 'subdivide' repeatedly which leaves me with a bewildering array of objects with slightly different sized grids.

Learning the meaning of 'workflow'.

Simple enough... fun way --> use ClothFX with a weight map in Layout, then save the results back into Modeler.... done.
