View Full Version : Straightening UVs for tiling

I was fiddling with the PLG Straighten UV plugin but I can't seem to get it to do anything. I'm essentially trying to take a complex shape and turn it into tiles. Which means I need the UVs to be more or less perfectly straight and parallel in some areas.

Right now I have to select rows of UV points and squash them straight with the stretch tool.

Flatten U or Flatten V? I'm using custom menu but I think its a normal lw command not a plugin.

sounds like what I need but I can't find it in the menu edit panel. Searched for Flatten, Flat, U, V etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

How about selecting points and using Set UV Map Value?

How about selecting points and using Set UV Map Value?

That's not much different than selecting and squashing a row of UV points with the stretch tool. I'd like to have the UVs line up to the grid with fewer operations.

No selecting points, means working with everything.. and everything will have same u or v, or both value.
I don't know how shorter it can be?

There is also quantize uvs. So if you have f.e. lot of uv like 0.0001, 0.0002 etc. not snapped. And you will use quantize f.e. 0.5, they will be snapped to 0.0, 0.5, 1.0. etc. nearest 0.5 grid.

Here's an example of what I'm doing. So on that couch there are less than cylindrical kinds of shapes on there so I want to tile them using UVs for a game engine. Better resolution for less cost too. So If there was a way where I could snap the UVs to the grid with a single operation. . .would save a lot of time. Otherwise I'm stuck selecting point row by row.

How about the uv-creeper? (32bit only!)

Umm, that's near perfect thanks! That should be standard LW mapping procedure in LW.:hey:

UV Layout has a straightening tool where you select the first and last points in a range and it straightens between the two.
