I have a how to question. I've tried to find what program or plug in produces the beams of light like rays that proceed from letters and in some cases move from right to left or vice versa as if the source of the light was moving. I purchased Knoll Light Factory thinking that this was the program, but I seem not to be able to find it. Please help.
Now I do understand that what I'm looking for can be produced in Lightwave, but I was hoping (I'm in the instant generation) that there is a faster way of getting this result.

Thanks

http://www.trapcode.com

Their "Shine" Plug-in for After Effects http://www.trapcode.com/products_shine.html is what you're looking for. It's $99 (used to be $49 when I bought it a couple of years ago), and easy to use.

I even once used the plug-in within Premiere. What a concept...using plug-ins IN the editor... (I know, there's a VT[3] "workaround" for doing this out there somewhere ;) )

Lastly, there's even a forum just for Trapcode plugins at Creative Cow: http://www.creativecow.net/index.php?forumid=63

Good luck.

If you have Lightwave use Volumetric Lights. There are tons of tutorials on the web.

The "Hardcore Lightwave Logos " video has an excellent tutorial by Tony Stubbleheim on Volumetric lighting that is easy to setup an is probably just the effect you're looking for.

Good luck,
Steve

Mirage (http://www.bauhaussoftware.com) the new product that is the update to Aura by Bauhaus has Volumetric Lighting as well as many other cool features and improvements over Aura. It is pre-release version at a discount price with the full release coming soon.

The volumetric lighting works fast with real time feedback and is very simple to use. Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.

Get Mirage.
It rocks and is only getting better.

I have to agree with Brad and Jim that you should get Mirage. I just installed it today and without cracking the manual whipped out a volumetric text sequence that took a whole two minutes to do.

It's Aura with more bells & whistles plus it's faster.

I hate to say, "me too", but get Mirage. It's an update to aura, it can live in your VT toolbox, and for a couple more days it will cost about what you paid for the Knoll plugin.

Thanks to all. I'm the type of person that you don't have to tell something to more than once. As soon as I read about the recommendations, I went on-line and purchased them right away. I got Mirage and TrapCode. So, now to learn this stuff and produce!! Now, if I could get an answer on my audio module switching problem, I'd be in heaven.

Thanks
