Speed Modelling Challenge #137 - Zombie annihilation.
************************************************** **
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wireframe and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

************************************************** ****

This week's topic is: Zombie annihilation.

Arrrgh Zombie attack! - I need some home made weaponry to kill the hoards of undead (they are mostly around the shops). The more homemade, the better. Think of what you would grab in an emergency and then gaffer tape something else to it.

Time Limit - 60 minutes.

Deadline - Wed. 14th September August 2011. 22:00 G.M.T.

I'm amazed at the amount of useful information available in response to the search: "How to kill a zombie." I'll try to make the "Deadline".

Is a vinyl LP too obvious?

Is a vinyl LP too obvious?

Nah, but you might need quite a few of them.

Ed: 'Purple Rain'?
Shaun: No.
Ed: 'Sign o' the Times'?
Shaun: Definitely not.
Ed: The 'Batman' soundtrack?
Shaun: Throw it.
Ed: 'Dire Straits'?
Shaun: Throw it.
Ed: Ooh, 'Stone Roses'.
Shaun: Um, No.
Ed: 'Second Coming'.
Shaun: I like it!
Ed: Ahhh! 'Sade'.
Shaun: Yeah, but that's Liz's!
Ed: Yeah, but she did dump you.
Shaun: Oh!

Weapon mods & homemade DIY - awesome, one of my son's favourite subjects :D We enjoy watching the Professional Russian - FPSRussia (http://www.youtube.com/user/FPSRussia). His channel may provide some not-so-household inspiration/ideas for this challenge - but it will probably more useful for those who are interested in simulating weapon effects with added realism at the animation end.

Man, getting on here just now is harder than the modelling part! Hope this works.

Tallahassee's bat (from the brilliant Zombieland). 20 minutes.....................

I'm sure his 'plastic friend' shipped as a free model/rig with LW 10!

Electric UnZombifier: Disqualified (too much time). But what can I do with this now? So I'll post it. (I might recycle the plug.)
Bat and saw combo ought to get them.

Nice grip on the bat Iain. Looks like the electric un-zombifier is for close friends and family. :D

Zombieland rule #15: "Nothing says massive head trauma like a bowling ball." (youtube clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_DYIUNYs84))

It's seemingly not the most difficult object to model, but I learned that adding holes without getting artifacts is really much harder than I thought it would be.
Modeling time 40 mins. A couple hours for texturing and setup.

Is the blood on your crowbar with a texture map or is it procedural

Great idea akaracquel.

It's a procedural on the crowbar and on the floor (I'm lazy!).

Hi,

Thought I would have a go at a chainsaw, see if I could get anything decent inside the hour time limit.

The chain isn't brilliant, I used 'rail clone' on the links and the teeth.

Here's the final modeler screen dump (see attached), I'll see if I get time to texture it.

Just for a laugh, I did a time-lapse of the the modelling process, you can download the mpeg from my website:

No extra points for blood, sorry. If you had to choose one it would have to be based on effectiveness and re-usability.

Ooooh... fingers crossed! :D

Iain - Tallahassee's bat - I really like this one. The modeling of the grip is very detailed and sets the model off perfectly.

Rabbitpenny - Electric UnZombifier - If there were points for best design this one would win hands down. Just the sort of thing I had in mind. Nice wires, pretty efficient modeling. Pity you are disqualified (honesty is the best policy!).

Traveler - Zombieland rule #15: "Nothing says massive head trauma like a bowling ball." - Nice finger holes. Great texturing and render. Love the character of the ball, the look of shock and sadness. Great!

Oliversimonnet - War Hammer - This would get the job done! Decent modeling on the 'ammer head, going from a square to a hex. Looks good.

Akaracquel - Bike Pump - Stun rifle, Vuvuzela Mod. - good model and render, love the detail of the rubber banding holding it all together. Simple tubes... but it all comes together in a great model. I had to look up jalapeno flakes, after I did it all made sense. stun and confuse a vegan zombie slayers dream!

Iain - Fire axe. - Top notch again Iain, can't fault it. You even managed to model the sharpening of the axe! This would be my #1 weapon I think.

Waves of light - Old rusty! - Wow! You're brave, I don't think I would tackle this for an hours challenge. Great job of the modeling, love the chain detail. You can't really see it in the renders but it's there in the video. The final render does it justice, lovely.

Akaracquel - Vacuum cleaner bazooka. - Heh, nice idea, you certainly nailed the hose. I don't know what you could put through it to kill a zombie though?

MDSPECIFIC - Pitchfork - Hey it's a bloody pitchfork, this is spot on. In the render it looks sticky! If you have ever tried modeling a fork you can understand how unruly they can get!

Iain - Spiked Flail - What a fantastic render! Love all the little details like the nails, chain links and handle. They really make this.

So on to the winner. A tough choice as always, as I could have chosen any one really. This week it goes to Iain for the smart Baseball bat with it's detailed grip. (if it wasn't this then it would have been the flail, so my choice was easier) :)

Well done Iain! and everyone else.
