View Full Version : droping rock

What is the best way to have a character pick up a rock in frame 1 to 20 and drop it frame 21 to 30. I have tutorial on parenting, but they all use nulls and objects and not characters, i.e. hands? I can parent the rock to the hand bone, but when I unparent it on frame 21, it all goes haywire after that, the rock jumps away to another position.

Can you get the motion of the hand first, then place the rock in it?

Remember, things don't work in 3D world. Took me awhile to get my head around that.

Use two copies of the rock, one with a inherited position of, let's say the hand bone and one by itself.

Just place them right and use opacity to choose which one is visible at the time.

Parent the free rock to the inherited one "with parent in place off" and unparent it "with parent in place on" to get the exact position at a specific frame.

You could also look into Parenter to unparent the rock at the right frame. Select rock, M for Motion Options, Add Modifier > Parenter.
