Speed Modelling Challenge #133 - Climbing
*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Post a wireframe and a render at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

*************************************************

This week's topic is: Climbing

Crampons, carabiners, harnesses, ropes and all that other stuff I've never used.

Time Limit - 60 minutes.

Deadline - Wed. 17th August 2011. 22:00 G.M.T.

Here is my "Stab" at it.

WIREFRAME

TRUE WIREFRAME

I wanted to get more detail in it, but I ran out of time and barely got the four main peices completed. I provided two wireframes because lightwave was triangulating my model in Layout. So I had to freeze my subpatch which makes it look like there are alot more polygons then there are.

Nice pick VictoryX.
Wireframes of subd'd objects will only be accurate in modeler.

A simple belay.............

Does anyone do climbing as a regular sport in their lives?

I couldn't say regular but I do occasionally visit the indoor centre near Edinburgh. It's a real thrill (even if you are trussed up to a safety system!)

Modeling 57min, texturing/lightning 35min.

I visited climbing club near my apartment couple of times and all I can say is that I need little more practice. :D

Great footwear. Climbing is easy, it's just like falling off a log! :hey:

It is pretty amazing. Here's some shots we took a few weeks ago......

That's me looking very awkward/scared.

My little girls thinking seriously about the whole thing.

My son scared the crap out of me (http://youtu.be/_n315N828wo) when he absconded during a humble bushwalk recently. Climbing or abseiling with harnesses is a whole lot safer than simply walking in the mountains over here (http://youtu.be/bNhXzrdizaU) ...but i'm not so sure about rope-jumping. lol. Thanks for sharing the pics Iain - it looks utterly spectacular.

Oof....you would not catch me doing that-even in my younger days!

Anyway,

XswampyX-Another impressive week with amazing detail on that carabiner and on the grappling hook.

VictoryX - A very detailed entry also. Really nice poly flow on the ice pick!

Rabbitpenny - a prolific week from you too. Really like the fur trim on the goggles-nice touch and nice choice of subject!

akaracquel - First subpatch! Well done-nice tapered effect on the rings. Keep at it-subpatches can be your best friend on these small, detailed objects.

But, the winner had to be MDSPECIFIC with that fantastic climbing shoe. Amazing work for an hour!

Thanks to all who entered-keep coming back!
