View Full Version : Linking 3D app camera movement to real camera movement

Hi guys. I'd like to try doing some VFX work with putting 3D objects in live video footage. I have a decent camera, Sony Vegas for compositing, and of course Lightwave for all the 3D stuff.

The only problem is that I'm not sure how I'd link the 3D camera to the real camera. DO I have to somehow get camera data into Lightwave or whatever I'm using? Or do I have to match it by hand? I can't really afford one of those really expensive ones like VOODOO or something right now.

Any suggestions?

xD... thought VOODOO was the expensive one... I'll check it out and post my findings. Thanks.

I'll have to try out VOODOO when I get home. It looks promising and should work at least decent. Thanks again.

Have a look at the Blender "tomato branch" it is currently under development but as far as i know you can already do decent 2d and 3d tracking with it. Don´t know if you can export the tracked scene but i guess there is always an option.
Here are 2 small tutorials Sebastian König did 2 weeks ago so there is a good possibility there are much more features already in the branch.

If you want something 'cheap' but that does the job, have a look at PFHoe, from The Pixel Farm (standard £49, Pro £99). Or even better, take out a subscription to 3D World magazine (in the UK) and get it for free! :)
