View Full Version : Noob question about environments

Here's something that's been stumping me for 3 years:

I place a simple, single object in a scene and create a textured environment to allow reflections in that object, but I don't want the environment rendered as part of the scene, I just want it to be reflected in the object.

Any way to achieve this?

Use a small (i.e. 16x16 pixels or so) single colour image as a backdrop image (compositing tab).

That's one of the options.

Two alternative ways.
Use an object for the backdrop instead of textured environment and have it unseen by camera.

Make a panorama image of your backdrop and place it in the surface editor as a reflection map. (this would render faster than the other methods)

Make the single colour image bright red (255,0,0). That way you can use the Image Editor's editing functions to change its hue to anything you like if you want a coloured background, change its saturation if you want a white bg, or brightness to make black.

Agreed. You could just use a reflection map in the material editor. This would indeed be faster as LW doesn't have to think about how the reflection would look.
