Come on guys, no more people interested in $1000 ?
You only need to provide a model with 2 arms/2 legs not exceeding 12,000 triangles !

One month. A bit tight deadline but I'll see if I can join in.

Do another when school is in, maybe after a quarter: October or so. And for HSers.

@geo_n Hope you will make it !
@UnCommonGrafx We thought summer could meet most of the schedules...
@[email protected] Great ! Keep spreading the word btw...

Certainly, I already forwarded the link to some friends of mine.. :hey:
To me summer + short deadline is perfect, usually I can't join contests because of the loads of things to do at work, and thisis the most "relaxed" period of the year..
By the way my friends asked me if the money prize is for real and who is going to judge the models.. I also ask you if it is possible to enter the competition with more than one character.. I have some ideas and may start modeling today.. Do you require models sent in fbx format and already triangulated?

Oh well, if you're in, I'm out. I have no chance against you.:)

Glad you like my models, but imho you're making a mistake not partecipating when you have the chance.. one can really learn a lot from these type of experience..

Thanks for the pep talk [email protected] I may have a model or two laying around that I can clean up and submit. I'll have to read the terms of submission again when I get home.

The prize is real cold hard USD cash. Money, spending money, do anything you want with it money. Pay bills or buy that new TV you've been looking at money!

If you have more than one character then yes! Please enter all the characters you want! It should be obvious, but I will say it anyway: You can't have more than one character nominated for the finalist position. I don't want one person to win, first, second and third prize. But also note, the more you enter is not necessarily better. Quality always over quantity.

.FBX, .Obj is fine just remember the maps ;) Do not triangulate it. Triangles are fine in the modeling but we will be judging on the topology of the mesh and it is much easier to read in quad form. But terminating geometry with triangles is fine. Think game modeling style.

Good luck and let your friends know or direct them here for more questions.

If anyone has any questions on the rules, or ToS let me know and I'll clear anything up ASAP.

Oh and don't be shy if you want to post some shots of work in progress. But I would understand if some people want to keep their ideas reserved till we are closer to the end.

Thanks for the clear answer
I'll start modeling tonight, I've got two ideas, maybe I'll post some images here..

Very cool Mixamo! Well done :)
I finally had time to sketck out the features of the character and do some little modeling.. I am trying to reach the best topology possible for better deformations.. In the end I'll be probably very close to the tris limit.. I'll post update soon..

Nice detail, that would bake nicely to a low res cage.

07-28-2011, 01:21 AM
Thank you.. anyway I am modeling everything "old school style" trying to reach the best complexity possible (since you told us that models will be judged by topology), and now you're telling me to bake that to a low res? I think that given the 12000 tris limit there won't be a lot of difference in topology from model to model.. please stop me at this point of work if I'm better only sculpt a low res cage.. :stumped:

@mixamo hmm. .. and is it necessary for the model to be in T pose. . .can it have its arm a little lowered n legs spread a little. . . ?
and pls also specify other restraints on model submission . . . .

Didn't mean to confuse. What you showed look high poly! If that is falling into the 12k tris group then keep going your doing really well.

@prince_um2

You can also submit in A-Pose if you like, that is fine too.

Props such as a sword on the back or, holsters, daggers or belts are fine.

No problem :)
Just one more question.. is it good for you to have more than one uv set?
I finished modeling and I'll start texturing as soon as possible..

mixamo

One uv set per mesh is best. You can have different maps if you need them over the different meshes. does this make any sense?

One map per mesh please at the most.

:D

Ok, here is my model.. http://vimeo.com/27587975
I don't do many lowpoly stuff, but I admit that pursuing a good topology for animation while staying under 12000 tris was great fun!
Modeling and texturing were done really fast, cause from saturday I'll be on vacation.. around 15 hours total of work.. my main concern was achieving animation ready topology, since models will be judged on this..
Tha character is 11968 tris, and has 4k color and normal map.. (in the video only color).
Inspiration came from one of my favorite sport and colors of Mixamo's logo..
sorry for the bad video compression, but otherwise it would have taken ages to upload the uncompressed .mov :D
It would be cool returning from vacation and win one of the prizes! :boogiedow
