just sharing some thoughts

I'm sure most of you have heard of things like screen space ambient occlusion and screen space directional occlusion, often used in games these days

a recent update to crysis 2 added screen space reflections, which I think uses a surface normal buffer and a depth buffer to take samples from one part of the image and project them to another part, it appears to approximate reflections quite effectively

if we can export such buffers from lightwave shouldn't it be possible to make use of them in this way?

most of the updates to 3D software in this regard focus on trying to enhance the viewports, but I don't see why these techniques couldn't be applied to full renders, perhaps by emulating them in a post app, or maybe the nodal image filter plugin?
