This is a fun little project I did for a friend of mine. He wanted some steampunk style art for his bands cd cover. He made a sketch of an idea and I worked off that. Comments welcome.

You've got the color scheme dead on. I like the lighting as well.

The "miss" for me is in the detail of the gears. A key element in the steampunk stuff is in the Victorian detail work. Even if you omit the "Victorian" part, details are important. The cogs/gears being so flat on the sides are a little disappointing.

If you look at the gear in the picture you will see that just inside the teeth there is a bevel inward. The separate "spokes" are rounded somewhat. Then it extrudes back out at the hub of the gear. This sort of thing is also a matter of making things practical as well as aesthetic in that it lowers the amount of materials to make the gear and lessens the weight for shipping or handling for repairs.

It's the small details that really make steampunk so intriguing to the eye.

Still, better than I can do. So take it for what it is worth.

i like it. the only thing that i see a little strange is that all the textures of the gears are in the same direction (vertical)

Thanks. You are right about the gears, they could have used more work with detailing and better surfaces.

Reminds me a bit of Beats Antique 'contraption' cover. I like the style.

Brilliant as usual. I have but one critique...

Although amp cabinets come in many sizes... the heads usually don't. I'm assuming the amp is supposed to be an Orange Thunderverb 200. They should be the same size. :) And if the cab in the front is a 2x12, make it the same width as the head.

Really good stuff!!! It looks like an illustration, very well lit!
The only thing with the ligh, it feels like you have well lit each part but the eye is attracted by the white smoke in the background and I don't think it's what you wanted.
Having more light around the guitar would work better in my humble opinion.
Other than that, inspiring as usual!

I remember seeing this about a week ago and forgetting to comment.
Great work (as usual).

Thanks guys. I didn't realize that about the amps. I agree about the guitar needing more light, its a little dark.

Cool illustration Otacon, your lighting looks always great! You even got there two little Moogerfooger pedals, next to the organ.
