View Full Version : Timewarp a graph editor curve?

Is there a plugin that can timewarp a graph editor curve? Similar to with Motion Mixer can do, but without having to go through all of that Motion Mixer setup hassle?

If there is one that would be SO huge. If there isn't one, I'll pay someone to write one.

or a motion modifier would work.

its probably do-able with nodes. I just don't know how.

Not sure what you're trying to animate, but could you parent it to a camera and then timewarp the camera using a motion modifier?

I'm trying to animate a bunch of cars in stop and go traffic. They are on a curved road.

So what would be ideal is to animate one car, then have the others follow it at different time intervals. I want to be able to keyframe their progress along the original car's motion curve.

Got it! I think...

I used a Node Item Motion modifier. DP Node Item info. Plug all the outputs into Position Rotation Scale. Set the Item to "Self". Set the Time Mode to Absolute. Keyframe the time envelope.

What is weird (so far) is that I have to keyframe the time values in between 0 and 3. I'm not sure what 3 corresponds to... but it works anyway.

If you're going to keyframe them (with timewarp) anyway why not link them all to a motion path and do start/stop keyframes. You could also use relativity if there are loads of cars and it didn't matter if the movements were more uniform.

If the animations are more complex maybe Link could help?

You could also try the PathAnimationIA lscript. I've used it before and it works great.

Or what you said :D

thanks for the recommendations. this node setup is simple and is working pretty well.

holy moly its so much easier than channeling things through Motion Mixer!
If I need to tweak the original motion the keyframes are still there in their original positions and I can just toggle the modifier on and off when tweaking. I'm a happy camper!

also made a video preview on ADKs method...

that looks nice as well. thanks for the link. it looks like it will create a nice constant motion for the item whereas my method time ramps the original curve/speed without modifying its velocity at all... I think.

constant speed along the curve :]
