I'm at a gig, and the 5 Sony XDCAMs are outputting in 1080 24P, but the TriCaster 850 will only display signal when the input is set to 1080i. Does this camera output 1080i even when the "system" is set to 1080 24p? Is there a setting I'm missing?

I've tried setting the session to 1080 24p, but it still only sees the input when set to 1080i. The idea was to have the session set to 1080i, but to have some cameras set to 24p.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

I'm not sure of the exact model of camera you are using, but the Sony PMW-EX3 (which is in the XDCAM line) will only record 24p on the SxS cards. This camera does not send 24p to the HD-SDI output.

It is possible, though unlikely, that there has been a firmware upgrade since we learned this the hard way while working on the promotions/junket for the Monsters vs Aliens movie.

At that time (two years ago), the paragraph above was definitely accurate. I'm not sure if it has changed since then...but I doubt it.

Hope this helps!

This is what I kept telling the DP but he didn't want to hear it. Thanks for the backup!

I use an EX3 myself and I have it configured for 1080i. It's in the menu.
