The following is a 3D puzzle for the LightWave community.

Your goal is to be the first person to uncover the hidden text message (yes, a text message).

All you need to do is:

1) move the camera to a certain position
2) adjust the camera's zoom factor
3) render the image from that angle
4) uncover the hidden text message

No changes are required to the scene exept to move the camera.

Bragging rights for the first person to post the final render and the hidden text message.

Send me a private message and in 1 week I will post the winner.

Try not to post any spoilers until the winner is proclaimed. If there is no winner in a week (I assume it will be solved quickly) I will post further hints.

1st HINT: Usain Bolt loves the required camera distance.

Daniel

P.S. I used the LightWave logo from Nicolas Jordan's posting (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115832).

It is waaay to pixelated to read, I've targeted a camera to null in the center so I can see it from any angle and moved the camera far, far away with a tele zoom but still it is hard to read.

Great work OnlineRender.

Here is the first hint for the rest. I will give you the position of the camera and the zoom factor. See the attached scene file.

The rendered animation is here:

Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/24755948)

Now that you know the camera position and zoom, what's the message?

Daniel

OnlineRender was the first to solve the puzzle followed by Xemka.

You place the camera translated (0,0,-100m) and rotated (0,0,0) with a zoom of factor of 250, or like in the animation I posted earlier a translation of (0,0,-40m) rotated (0,0,0) with a zoom factor of 100 also works.

The hidden message is "LightWave 10".

The final image is a QR Code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code), or my new 3D QR Code.

Render the final image then use your Google Android phone or one of the many iPhone QR Code scanning applications (including Google Goggles (http://itunes.apple.com/app/google-mobile-app/id284815942)) to take a picture of the render to decode.

Google uses QR Codes (http://www.google.com/help/maps/favoriteplaces/business/barcode.html), as do many others, and based on the Wiki article it appears they are used not only in marketing, books, and gaming, but apparently on Royal Dutch Mint coins and cemetery grave markers.

I chose a simple message, but it could also have been an URL to the LightWave product page or any other text. Maybe you could stamp your proof renders with your own 3D QR Code giving details about the image.

There are many online web interfaces to produce QR Codes, including a FaceBook app (http://www.facebook.com/QRcode.generator?sk=app_4949752878) and the Google Chart api (http://code.google.com/apis/chart/image/docs/gallery/qr_codes.html). This Google Chart URL (https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?chs=500x500&cht=qr&chl=LightWave+10&choe=URF-8) generates the LightWave QR Code (note the "LightWave 10" text in the URL).
