I'm very interested in using Lightwave as a basis for Rapid Prototyping and was curious if anyone in here has had experience in that field using LWO.

I had some objects printed by shapeways. It worked out fine, expensive but very detailed objects. It were artsy little statues so not rapid prototyping in strictu sensu. To convert to .stl and to get the dimensions right I did use a plug-in in Zbrush ...

Yep, very happy user of Shapeways as well here. They also have very fine tutorials etc to make sure the model complies with the requirements and give tips for hollowing it out.

We all work digitally so often, but nothing beats holding a model in your hands..

what about 3d art to part compared to shapeways?

I was looking into 3d art to parts long time ago.

their site looked more attractive and informative before, then they changed
it and removed many samples and images leaving it not so informative.

A question, I know we can only get as much resoultion that we create in lightwave by having a very high dense mesh, but isnīt there a good conversion tool that creates solids from mesh and makes it only dependent on the 3d print resolution.
I was thinking of some of the rhino tools with T-splines wich I believe can convert polymeshes to nurbs.
