View Full Version : SSS noise.

So, I've been messing around with the sss2 shader. I prefer to work without the forced reflection needed for the skin shaders.

I get blotches where the sss kicks in, and nomatter what I crank the quality up to its still there. Head on from the light it is ok, its when a shallow angle from the light hits it the problem starts. I also lose detail at this point.

I use displacements aswell as bump maps and I think that can be part of the problem.

I'm attaching 2 images where the blue character shows this problem. The best way to see the problem is flipping back and forth between them.

Any help in this matter is much appreciated.

The problem is that SSS2 is a preprocessed shader... and such shaders don't work fr animation, they "fizz".

Ok, thats bad news. Guess I need to find a way to do sss in another way. May need to go the skin shader route even though I would prefer not.

Problem solved. Simple skin. Set subdermis influence to 0% and it behaves almost like the sss2 shader :)
