Does anyone know if there are any plugins or scripts out there that will break up or shatter an object?

I tried C4 with Lightwave 9.6 but it come up with an error. I'm thinking I might have to install Lightwave 8.x and see if it works with that.

If it's flat, or not very curved mesh, you can use EasySplit http://easysplit.trueart.pl
and just draw cuts on object in few moves. It's perfect for shattering windows etc.
It preserves UV maps and weights.

f its flat simple surfaces, You can also simply sketch curves, or use a divided grid and either move points or displace the grid with textured point map and apply that morph to the base grid, You might want to unweld points first.

put that diplaced grid in a background layer and use drill command and slice, after that unweld your object to seperate the pieces that was cut.

if you create a sphere, delete half of it, flatten it ..you can get a sort of hole spider geometry that reminds of a bullet hole, distort it manually by dragging points or with textured point map, or send it to layout and deform it with normal maps, and save transformed geometry for a cookie cutter to use.
