What is the workflow you guys use? Do you surface/texture first and then light? Because since the lighting influences very much the look of your shaders, textures etc, if you texture first, how do you tweak your textures and shaders before you do your lighting? Thanks.

I usually surface stuff as I build it, using a basic lighting setup. I find it easier to visualise what I'm building that way. I can always tweak the surfaceslater, depending on what lighting setup I end up using. It's probably not the most efficient way of doing things, but it seems to work fine for me.

i would light the scene first but also remember that you can have lights
exclude objects so you can light your scene seperate from your character
if you so choose.
