View Full Version : Anime Characters in Lightwave?

04-26-2011, 05:58 AM
Well, I was thinking of using Lightwave to get Anime characters and animate them... Does anyone have any useful tutorials for achieving the Anime look within Lightwave? I know its a lot to ask, but I really love the style... Ive been experimenting with cell-shading lately and i haven't been able to do anything that remotely resembles Anime-Style rendering... So... Uhh... Help?

Thanks in advance,
The Adaminator

unReal Xtreme2:

Tutorials for it? Hmm. There are "Unreal" threads here somewhere, also on Spinquad, and if I remember rightly, on CGTalk. Google is your friend.

Here's one lot: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=3878815#post3878815

There are some excellent LW cel-shaded examples here: http://www.youtube.com/user/linograndi#g/u

Im going to assume you are refering to the texture part and not the modelling.

You can get a pretty nice effect by just simply texturing it with sharp colors that's so often usein Anime, only that will give you a nice look to it, aswell as a little trick you can use.

If you have a finished modell that is textured, you copy that modell. You give it a 100% black color, and then invert all the faces. Scale it up just a tiny bit. This will create a nice "cell-shading" effect on your models. Of course it's extremely high cost and unsufficient way of using it. Really works best for still images.

Also, for inspiration, check out FREEDOM, the Nissan Cup o' Soup / Apollo era Space miniseries from Japan.

100% with Lightwave 3D.

Pretty neat. (and interesting techniques, if you LOOK at it...)
