View Full Version : Achieving coloured shadows

Got a very simple setup, poly with a stained glass window texture, same texture has an alpha. But I cannot get the projected image on the floor to have any colour, I used the alpha for transparency, no joy, I used the colour for transparency, no joy. Color filter in the Advanced tab has a value.

In this image, the colour image is providing the texture colour, the transparency and the translucency, applied in the node editor.

Also, and this might be outside of LW's abilities, I'd like the shafts of light to be appropriately coloured too.

You may have to get Lightwave's caustics involved for this, which I've heard are really slow. You could also try cheating it with multiple lights that are different colored. There's some cool things you can do with volumetric light texturing, so you may be able to achieve the colored "god rays" look.

Transparency in a gradient from 0 - 50%
Color filter @ 500%

Any good?

Thanks for the replies guys :) I tried fiddling with caustics & other settings I don't usually fiddle with, and didn't achieve anything. However, when I reset everything to how I thought it was set up, I found that I had somehow solved it. I had coloured projection and coloured light shafts. Now, I'm not going to be the guy who said that it wasn't working and now it magically is after not doing anything, quite obviously I have done something :) the thing that is most likely is that I have a much larger color filter value than before.

Also, I note that the VPR does not do coloured projection, although obviously that didn't impact on the original render image I posted.

So, again thanks guys, I must remember to occasionally use seemingly huge values if I can't see the result I'm after in future :)

Would never have thought... I'm rubbish with those nodes. You Cornish are a clever bunch! :D
