Visit:

http://www.infoseek.livedoor.com/~f_ichikawa/

Scroll down until you find Open Edge Extender for Mac.

Download it, and unzip it. Install, remove LW's own useless Extender and add this to the Extender button instead.

Just do it.

Now, try making any enclosed mesh - a sphere say - and remove the top. Make sure you can see all the points of the opening in the Perspective/Shaded view and then Apple-drag around the top - you'll select a load of points. Don't worry. Hit the Extender button, and then hit T - you will move ONLY the points around the edge, and you WON'T get any messed-up polys. It's just fantastic.

And this plug-in has been around since December - why does no-one tell us these things???

Lightwave Modeler would be a little(ok, a lot) long in the tooth if it weren't for the awesome 3rd party plug-ins. Kind of forces you to always keep your eyes to the web(flay and the bulliten boards) for the inside scoop on what's out there.

raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these are a few of my favorite plug links:

http://www.m2estudios.com/plugins.html
http://www.daz3d.com/pages/dp/development/developright.html (e-mail daz for the macOsX versions of their plugs, they're awesome)
http://www.dstorm.co.jp/dslib/plg70e.html

some for Layout as well:
http://worley.com/
http://evasion3d.com/

and more!

when 7.5 came out, I was disappointed that most development efforts were made to Layout, and that Modeler was left pretty much alone. the majority of the indespensable plugs in this list have come out for osX since, and I'm a happy modeler for it.

all I can say is, if Lightwave is indespensable to you, patrol the sites, you'll be rewarded for your time. If you don't have the rest of Fujio's plug's, get them. Also, Daz3d's 3 plugs are in my top 10 list--I can't do without them. Then there's good ol' edge bevel from dstorm.

thanks for posting your thread. It doesn't hurt to repost news like this.

Been there, done that! I gotta agree, this is a really good plug-in. The only thing that would improve it, IMO, would be a setting to have the extrusion be moved away from the original points. Sometimes, I forget to have the move tool selected and I accidentally deselect the points...

I wish there was some sort of depository for a proper list of Mac plug-ins (free, share, commercial), with a decent rating system - kind of like Amazon only believable.

Alternatively, maybe Newtek should just build all these great tools into LW 8 :-)
