I have a large house model.
The zomming and panning functions don't seem to intuative.
Is there a way to pan to the center of a room and then zoom in and out or rotate as needed.
Like centering a camera in this room and rotating to select polys, edges, and points.
This is in modeler

The easiest thing would be to select the floor of the room you want to work on and hit shift-a. This will center and focus the camera on the selection so when you rotate the camera it will move around that selection. I do this all the time while working on complex models. :)

And, presuming you are using Modeler here, using the keyboard shortcuts instead of the viewports buttons is the only way to go. Using the buttons limits you to using the centre of the viewport while the keyboard shortcuts are based around the position of the mouse pointer - a vital difference if you need more precision.

Also learn to use the "-" key to hide selected geometry, "=" to hide everything not selected, and "\" key to reveal all. Keeps things tidy.
