A pair of huge... lattices... deforming...

WARNING! The above link, although entirely LW related, DOES contain a pair of CG breasts being lattice deformed. If you are of a sensitive disposition it is best to avoid.* **

Interesting, I thought.

* Look, it's their example, not mine.
** What? What kind of question is that? Ladies breasts.

more to the point is this plugin available to us free/paid?

it appears to be a useful implementation of a classic ffd lattice

Yeah, I saw that vid. It looks nice. (The deformer.)

There is a page on that site that's full of lscripts and things... so that seems promising... but I guess it's impossible to tell, really.

I found a page with two .zip files that can be downloaded, but the actual plugins inside required a password to unzip.

www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~asagi/Lattice/LatticeDeform07p.zip
www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~asagi/Lattice/AS_Lattice07p.zip

I'm not awesome at Japanese and as a blog, it's probably using a colloquial form of text which will be difficult to translate.

Doesnīt LW 10 have something similar? Not necessarily a lattice, but for example Nulls with definable radius that on contact can push geometry in?

Would be nice to automate compression in the armpit and pectoralis region, for example.

I remember someone doing something like that in a setup, but I canīt remember if that was native LW or some Worley plugin.

Umm... d'you mean an Effector?

For getting functionality like a lattice deformer you could build a cage of bones, but I'm not sure it would work exactly right and it would be a lot of fiddling about instead of just pressing a nice, shiny "Lattice deformer" button...

I seem to remember somebody writing a plugin/script at some point that made a bones cage to do exactly this... hmm... then again maybe I just imagined it...

The name sounds familiar, so it could be him..it was an ad with a semi-toony polar bear sitting on a ball, or something similar. The ball squash was automated like the breast in the example above.

@Cardboard yes, "effector" sounds good, :D, thx.

The bones trick works reasonably well. You can use it with the morph through bones trick. I used this technique to make the mouth on Mr. Sun in Ni-Hao Kai-Lan. The mouth has a series of morphs with the mouth modeled flat. This way I can recreate the graphic shapes that are in the design. I then used the faux-lattice trick to make the mouth conform to his round head shape. So as his mouth changes expressions the mouth rolls over his head and looks to conform to his shape.

I want to be a Null object, LOL!

It seems that 3d anime porn (which IMO is very creepy) is really big over there, so Iīm not too surprised with the model they chose.

This is a necessary plugin. Nothing in lightwave does it actually.

This plug-in seems to have some problems, an early beta. But if anyone want it and has twitter, send him/her a message:

The Lattice-style thingy using in-the-box tools

1. CENTER is a Null
2. Mesh has bones and nodal displacement set to work BEFORE BONES
3. Set the bones to USE MORPHED POSITIONS
4. Animate the CENTER Null and watch what happens ...

Car-Wheel-2-Ground-Contact deformation is EASY :) LOL

The plugin is now a fully functioning one, though it doesn't seem to be interactive, as you have to move the timeline to see the deformation. You can make it live but turning on the Virtual Studio Live toggle though!

wonder, can you make a customized shape, instead of a cage?
could "get from CO" be it?...

edit1:.. nah, i think it's limited to a cage...
edit2:.. or...

Hey where can I find this plugin? Looking for a lattice deformer for years already. Every piece of 3d software has it, except Lightwave.
And then please a plugin that can be used in Layout also, for keyframing the lattice!!!

Please help!

Thanks!

Freddy

If Newtek decides to implement a Lattice deformer, though, hopefully they'll go all out and implement a full arbitrary mesh-cage deformer. C4D has both now, and I find the mesh-cage deformer is significantly more useful, esp. for "quick" animation of multi-limbed bodies, various mograph-type uses, and so forth where getting multiple lattice deformers properly arranged so as not to interfere with each other would be a struggle.

How do you work this AS Lattice plugin? How do you manipulate the lattice points in Layout? Is there a video showing that?

Okay, so it makes bones and you move the bones.

However, the cage stays attached to the object its deforming, so if I try to rotate a tire for example, the lattice rotates with it and so the flattened section of the tire rotates instead of staying at the base.

It's hard to work this out with out any readable instructions unfortunately, because it looks like it could be quite good.

Can't you use "Use Bones From"?

djwaterman

Perhaps...but I don't have a handle on the plugin anyway and don't have the time to experiment. It does deform things nice though. The lattice seems to become part of the object being deformed, at least the way I had it set up.

Another Campaign to Lobby4Lattice
should be struck up if this Webengine
allows people to look up how many times
people have asked for this before>
I think that would help to steer Mr.Powers'
team at this ESSENTIAL CA Tool, which if
the mind set has now shifted & include it in
the update for LW 12 & also CSculpt.
No more deaf ears please!

no sorry, haven't used it that much, as it seems i can't make a custom cage.
