View Full Version : Cloning an object with different surface color?

Hey all!

So I am messing with a project and was hoping you guys might be able to help me with making it a lil easier.

I created some LEGO Pieces (see attachment), And wanted to have them drop into the scene and create something. I have thought of 2 ways to do this, but am not sure what would be easier and quicker. Or if there is another way go go about it all together.

1) Model what I wanted the LEGOS to create and then put each block into its own layer. Then bring it into Layout to animate.

2) In Layout clone the pieces I need and just make it there. The problem I run into is if I do that all the clones have the same surface, and I might want to change up the color on some.

I hope this makes sense and and thoughts would be appreciated.

You should use one of Extended Spot Info nodes such as
TrueArt's Node Library
and use ItemID to drive Extended Item Info, and use Clone Index as input to Gradient, then to Surface Color.
Or Item Position to some procedural texture, then to Surface Color.
