View Full Version : Normalmap node broken?

Is there something wrong with this node? I'm using 9.6 If I take my normal map and apply it as the image color using my UV map it looks perfect on the model, lines up correctly, no issues. But if I apply it using the Normalmap node it's completely wacked out. Same UV map, no difference. Am I missing something, or is this node broken?

Ok - I loaded up another file that uses this node and it has no problems. Same setup. The only difference is in the construction of the UVmap. The file that works properly has one continuous UV while the one that's not working has Group UV's produced in Zbrush. Either way I can't figure out why this is occurring.

I could never get the hang of ZB Group-UV with Nmaps. Always looked horrible.

Here is the same map applied as just color, which appears smooth and unbroken, and then applied using the Normal Node where it appears broken. I'd think it just an artifact of the normal mode being routed into the color but on the model I have that has a continuous UV this problem does not appear. The normal rendering is of course a crazy mess.

Is the normal map in tangent space? because the normal map node works only with tangent space normal maps.

Yeah that's an object space Nmap. The Nmap node in LW uses Tangent space. Use the Tangent space option in Zbrush.
