How do you guys create normal maps from images? I know there's a program called crazy bump that will do it but for a commercial license it's like $300 which is a little more then I want to pay right at the moment. Any good alternatives?

Thanks. I forgot about that one. I remember that one from a year or two ago but then when I was thinking about it recently, I thought that might have been crazy bump.

do you have photoshop? You can download Nvidias' normal map filter and make normals maps from images right in photoshop. You may be able to do this in gimp as well.

Free. And it installs plugins for PS to deal with the conversion of maps if you prefer not to use the standalone app.
