Did a quick search but didn't really see anyting to pique my interest... but is there any movement on a basic crowd simulation solution for LW? One that doesn't involve me writing an interface or a converter? :)

Just a simple solution for several hundred animated figures, walking across a terrain mesh and avoiding obstacles and each other. Kind of like what Bugz was supposed to be, but ready-made for immediate LW use?

Particle instancing is the easier option.

dp instance is stable enough for crowd shots.

Bryphi has a video showing how to make ants swarm:

If you open one of those videos on Youtube so it's showing the comments, there's a link to a much nicer version to download from his site.

I've no idea if it will be of any use to you, but it seems relevant...

edit: It's actually in 3 parts as good quality downloads, you'll have to check the links in the later vids.

There is no really a broadcast quality LW plugin for crowd simulation at the moment. Bryphi "FX Emiter", bugz, dp instance or HD instance are "Clone-tool"-Plugins but NOT for realistic autonomous agent driven animation ...

crowds with interacting are not possible native in LW....
