Speed Modeling Challenge #108 - Speed Modeling Challenge Trophy.
*************************************************
Rules:

1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no

longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this,

your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the

final model conforms to what is asked for.
2. Renders are optional! Post wires, though, and at 800x600 or larger.
3. LightWave should be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.
4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the

model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the

allocated period.

*************************************************

We all enter the Speed Challenge, but what do we get for all the effort (apart from the fame,

adulation and groupie action!). Give It your best shot at designing a suitable trophy that you would

be glad to accept* for your efforts.

* No trophy will actually be made, or given.... It's just for fun!

Time Limit - 60 minutes.
Deadline - Wednesday 9th February 2011, 2200 GMT.

Thats some nice work there XswampyX

We had a similar challenge back in the 40s :)

The use of the trophy never really took off afterwards unfortunately.

Oh, Doh! :bangwall:

I did check the previous challenges as I wasn't here before about #80. Must have missed that one.

Unfortunately I`m a bit too unwell these days to take part in the challenges.
Once the weather warms up a bit I should perk up a bit and get back into them.

Nice entries guys. Love that shield xswampyx. I remember my brother having loads just llike it (yes I was the arty one :hey:)

Not the best model I've ever put up but I haven't taken part in awhile and just wanted to get something posted.

15 minutes modelling (and loads of material tests later)......................

XswampyX
02-15-2011, 03:53 PM
Thanks Iain.

I'm finding materials a lot easier these days, thanks to VPR.

Not long to go now. Better get those entries in.

Looks good COBRAsoft, and you only need the wires.

When did that happen?
I know we discussed options but wires are a bit dull without a render don't you think?

Iain, I'm working on the render right now :).

Here @ No 106 :- http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115275&highlight=%23106

And you are right, the renders add to the challenge by showing what can be achieved with at times, pretty simple geometry. On the other hand it might put people off if they think they have to spend 3 hours setting up the render.

Dunno.

Huh?
Who won? Or did I miss something?

Ow lol.. just followed the link.. sorry my bad!

Ooooh yes the winner ->

All good entries, but the rules state '2. Renders are optional! Post wires, though, and at 800x600 or larger.'

'Stars' from oliversimonnet - disqualified :-( Although I like the design of the Stars, you don't have any wires?

'Shard' from oliversimonnet - disqualified again. Kudos for the LW logo.

'Bendy Stars' from chco2 - Very nice, good design and I really like the slight blur on the render to give it a more photographic look. Your second wire-frame image doesn't really show the construction at all?

'Icon' from Iain - Sharp, sharp, sharp. I don't think I could pick that up without cutting off my hands.

'Alien Orifice' from COBRAsoft - Looks like something I would make. You managed to get a trophy, shield and cup all in one!

The winner is COBRAsoft.

Thanks people, and well done all.

Congrats Cobra!!
On to the next challenge..
(tip: My kids are growing up with all sort of crap cartoons on tv.. perhaps some "good old cartoons" like.. hmm Tom & Jerry or Animaniacs.. whatever? I suck @ characters, but will surely give it a try.. Perhaps allow props as well? :) )

Do you mean sharp model edges? It was all rounded. Oh well, didn't expect it to win anyway :)

The winner is COBRAsoft.

Well done Sigurd!

Just thought that model had very sharp edges for a subpatched model. Not that there is anything wrong with that. :)

Do we get a new thread for the next one?

02-18-2011, 10:57 AM
Hey thx guys! Never expected this. I guess posting the wires helped a lot in XswampyX's decision :).

Who's turn is it to start the next one? Mine comes after that if I remember well.

There are so many great models to choose from, some of which I wanted to model myself...hehe.

I would have to go with the paddle boat by a nose...well done Hrgiger

So it's up to Hrgiger for the next one. (I thought you had set it, hence the furry cat!) :D

Hi,

I took the liberty to post challenge #109 here (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117188).

HRGiger: I hope you don't mind, you can post the next challenge #110, so things are in order again. The winner of this week will post #111 in two weeks.

Greetings,
Sigurd

You're welcome! I hope the challenges will be weekly again and that people (like me) find more time for it to actually join regurarly.
