For the past few months, I have been working as the Animation Director on a virtual world for 6-11 year-old kids that bridges the gap between offline and online sports play in a way that is truly interactive and social, combining the two biggest passions of children.

Working with Ed Chichik and Chris Maness, we have modeled a large cast of characters with hundreds of 3D assets. Kurt Smith created all of the Character rigs which are a treat to animate.

We are using SpriteGen in LightWave 10 to generate all of the game renders which has saved us days if not weeks worth of work. Big thanks for Newtek for creating such an amazing addition to the software.

If you're working on a sprite based project, SpriteGen is a must have.

Here is a sneak peek at a few of the Non-Player characters that kids will get to interact with in the world of FunGoPlay:

Looks really nice. Also refreshing to see nice characters, most modern cartoons look so ugly IMO.

All custom rigs by Kurt Smith... He creates rigs that are extremely easy to use and very fun to animate with. And he creates them extremely fast.

Ah, The Scientist. I'll have to check out his Adam rig and pick it apart. Anything that makes character stuff easier and faster is always welcome.

When he started he was still in the learning process on a couple of other projects. By the time he got to the FunGoPlay rigs I feel he improved his rigging abilities ten times over.

It will be interesting to see where his abilities are in another year.

Is there anything you can share about the rigs...custom rigs, rhiggit?

I was able to build all individual custom rigs fully in LW without using one third party plugin, everything was straight out the box.

RHiggit, while it is jaw droppingly amazing (hats off to RH for that one) was not used on this project.

That's and masterpiece work William, characters are so full of life and look really cartoony (unlike some of today's characters in cartoons which look more like zombies). Excellent stuff , not a single nitpick :).

Very cool. Love these characters! I'm interested to know how you did the faces -- they look like texture maps. Are they animate-able?

Animated image sequences are used when the faces need to animate.

OT: The 100 Characters video is awesome William.
Why no wireframe in this character ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C9-bjeF8gw&t=1m52s
looks like it is the most detailed one along with the other medieval warriors (also without WF).
