Should I start a new database of plugins for LightWave? I have the infrastructure ready at www.senen.se that I easily could be amended for this purpose?
Please let me know what you think regarding this..

if you can the more the better , I also have setup a database for pluggins .

"shameful self plug "

OR got it covered :)
www.3djunkies.net
Lightwave database
is now fully functional .

all I need is people to use it and upload content .

features : Rate and Recommend Content .
Comment on pluggins .
Ability to upload directly or url direct
Categories
Images and Video
Additional fields
Html self code
commercial and free licence options
Drop down menus with tool selection
views counter
download counter
all files submitted are spawned in the Pipeline so all can see
abiltiy to set privacy on content , for example you only want the LW group to see it , just select it , or go private , loggen in users ect .

This one (http://www.lwplugindb.com/) had already filled the gap pretty nice but the more the better :).

I'll go with this. Quick, clean, simple. No other fluff.

:agree:
And the best: no registration needed.

YES! It's easy and simple to use and I think having them all in one and the same spot is best

I also put something up when Flay went down
http://www.cglounge.com/

One purpose only, find LW plugins. :)
It's lightweight, clean and on a fast server.
A few more small finesses will be added for the search.

One I liked about Flay was the way you could filter the search results. If I'm looking for a Mac plug-in, I don't need to see the many, many plug-ins that won't work for me.

Lwplugindb is very nice, but they need a news section.

I'll add that soonish. It's already a function in the system I used, I've just not added the gui for it, but I left space on the sides just to be able to have the filter options there later on.
I'll just finish the import of all old plugins first, there's a quite some left for the system to chew through, and I check them manually for corrections before they are published, taking a few at a time.

And Spinquad plugin database (http://spinquad.com/lightwave-plugins/)

Lwplugindb is very nice, but they need a news section.

And a jobs section... wow! Flay was a really good site. We are creating a new Flaykenstein with parts of other webs :)

registration is not required for our Lightwave Database , it's required so when you upload a file *pluggin for example , its get's automaticly stored in your personal storage , also is infulenced on what action the user lets pass , for example if the pluggin dev uploads and set to logged in only , our private , or groups , it will corespond .
http://3djunkies.net/mod/form/my_forms.php?id=280&form_view=all what you see here is different from what logged in users see .

I agree , I am working on pulling the database correctly , for the moment everything works on meta tags , which is effecent , but its nice to have the option to select type format ect , this is something I will be working on over the weekend to resolve .

While the proliferation of sites to replace Flay is great it does mean fragmentation in an already-small marketplace. lwplugindb has existed for a good long time now and yet is still not up to the level of the sheer quantity of plugins that were referenced by Flay. I think it would be better for LightWavers everywhere if some concentration was applied to actually reference things rather than spending it to create another database. I'm sure Ken would welcome the attention too.

The trick to this is to keep the sites up and active and cross link between them as much as possible where ever possible. 3DJUNKIES.net is a great example as is Liberty3d.com and lwplugindb so the more the merrier. If anyone has links for us to post over at Liberty3d.com please drop me an emeowl or register on our forums and send me a PM. I will gladly post them on our site. All the good people in the community are running these sites so its nice to know that unless anything seriously horrible happens (like getting hit by a car or something) that they will continue to exist. It's a real shame about flay.com. I personally think its a bit short sight for Christopher to just shut it off like that without exploring solutions (like selling the site or signing it over to someone) but I respect his reasons for doing it.

I agree with both above comments , and personally I highly rate lwplugindb , but flay.com was always the first place I went , " I miss flay :( " .

The difference between 3Djunkies DB from Flay or LWplugindb , is that users have control they add the content , I can rip all the data in the world from flay webmachine and fill it up , but that dosn't mean people will use it ?and personally I don't want to sit for hours copy and pasting content , I would much rather preffer the owners or authors plugg'ed there plugs .

on a side note to other LW users SQ also have a database " it's like rat race now " :) but I am glad , there is so much content for Lightwave its unreal , its just scattered all over the place ,hence why 3DJunkies was made ,to create a Central HUB , I can pull content from anybodies site , its just a matter of sync sql and working how to embed inline using 3DJ's api ,but the whole purpose is to save me time and let users enter content .

what's happening with Lightwiki ? that's also another great resource .

It just goes to show you don't know what you have until it's gone .

It's actually on its new home now, but the redirect is what's causing the continuing problem and not only have I not had time to sort it, neither have the site's new hosts... :(
