I thought it was just under construction ?no ?

please say other wise .

If it's possible , I can embed there database into 3djunkies.net , but I need permissions first .

cant let FLAY.com die ,its an EPIC SITE ,if its hosting issue or anything else PM me , I might be able to sort it out .

Goodbye Flay.com

It was a great plugin site, but I guessed the end was near since the lack of
updates in there, Lightwave plugin database and now spinquad plugin database might have made it less useful too.

perhaps there is quite a few links to plugin and sites wich hasnīt made it yet to the lightwave plugin database or spinquad plugin database, and those are probably very old but still valid links, who knows?

"He's dead Jim."

I used to visit Flay daily. For years it was THE source for Lightwave related info and new plug-ins. In the past year or two, it had become obvious that the owner was losing interest in maintaining it. Very sad to see that it's officially dead now. I wish him good luck though; the old Flay had a great run.

This past year I've been using LW Plug-in Database (http://www.lwplugindb.com/). Anybody know of other good alternative Lightwave news/plugins sites?

Offering artist an alternative FIX

after todays events , I will be working hard to bring pluggins to LW'ers and other 3D users :

you can upload/download your pluggins over at 3djunkies.net
rate ect .

I still belive this would better implemented into Lightwave , you should not need to search and download pluggin via a 3rd party site . it should be done all in Lightwave terminal .

just give me a few weeks to work out the DB . it would be handy if I could capture flays database and implement into 3DJ .

That's a huge shame, Flay has been an important part of the LightWave community for so long.

I would like to thank Christopher for running Flay for all these years, but respect his decisions to want to do something different.

All is not lost though, we still have Ken's plugin database.

I suppose out of fairplay : SpinQuad have implemented a pluggins database

Thanks to Christopher for all his work! It was always my first stop looking for plugins, even after Ken launched his site. And before that, the first site I went to for LW/3D news.

Could NT provide a database, though, to make the resource more permanent?

Back in Lightwaves hayday Flay was the place to go for news plugin etc but over the years it seems it has slowly been neglected and has faded away. On the bright side it looks like many others have filled in the void that has been left.

Makes you want to organize the scattered plugin arhive you have in the computer =(

Thanks for the service flay.com

There wasa plugin i always went to flay to get and it was stored in the website and i couldnt find it anywhere else: Reknitter. Attached.

What does it do?

Imagine you have 2 objects with same topology but different shape and different point order and you want to morph one into the other or exchange Vmaps. Sometimes you can't run the Background to Morph without getting bad results.

Reknitter works like this. Select 2 polys of a mesh and run it. Go to the other mesh, select the same 2 polys and run it. Point Order was remapped in both so they now have same point order.
Only note is that UVmaps will get screwed, so work with copys and than transfer whatever to the originals.

Got to run.... A Peacefull 2011 everyone.

Cheers

Is this for sure?
For the past 15 years (or even longer, I think) Christophers site has been an awesome resource for the LW- user. I used to visit it every day, but a little less lately, since updates got a little less frequent.
If this is indeed true, then I really hope that he reconsiders. It would be a terrible loss for the LW- community.

What's with the login on your site?

Well if CORE has a web browser built in perhaps you could just make a simple link button that would go right to your site inside of CORE.

I remember the flay glory days. When each week there would be multiple gems to collect from the world of lightwave but it's been barren for many a year now.
I don't find it surprising, given lw's decade of demise. It's still sad though.

Oh OK sorry I just clicked though a few links and they worked so I assumed it was all there.Yeah, but I think between LW users here, and all over we can compile a list of what we use and a link maybe get the thread a sticky? It would be messy (to keep the top thread up to date), but would be worth a shot.

Wow a lot of plugins made by people who dont use lw anymore are now lost forever.Gotta get that database...

Now if it were stripped down from all the graphical stuff and make it less of a bandwidth hog...

It's still about LW here and there, it's just no longer a database.

Great moment for an NT (encouraged) site to take over plugin dispersal!

(a la newly launched rhino plugin site: http://www.food4rhino.com/ )

Sad to see flay.com go, but completely understandable. Thanks for the info!!

I echo the sentiments above that we could put something in place. Surely as a community we could keep something up and running.

Rather than a sticky thread (which ultimately ends up with one person being responsible) we could produce a wiki of sorts (I know there was one, just tried to search for it and it seems to have gone..... someone correct me if i am mistaken)

Simple enough with our strong community........

Hmmm.. why don't we just shift it to lightwiki?

http://www.lightwiki.com/wiki/mediawiki-1.4.4/index.php?title=Main_Page

In any case, more than half the plugins in flay were already legacy broken-ness. LW10 is a good time for some spring cleaning ...

yes , as some have said ; Flay was like a small but a real Spiritual place for me as LWer . not simply a portal .

during a good amount of time , i read my e-mails after i had read the news at Flay first .

yes i grew up there ... =)

, but to be fair till the end , i do not remember where was the last time i was there .

so the decision looks right even ' towards me ' .

thanks Flay !! .. well flay.com is just a web address so all the Thanks go to the person behind it .

--

just noticed something ;

yesterday there was a direct link to odforce ( houdini forum ) only and today i see the official side-fx forum link added too ...

so i think i'll have yet reasons to add Flay at my bookmarks again , since i lately started to use Houdini .

ha - ha ! =) ... me and Flay again ! looks like i have no excuse to be sad .

.cheers

Such a shame...

Although I understand personal point of view of the author it was probably number 1 source for lightwave plugins.

I wish if he'd put a backup somewhere... or let it to someone else...

Shame shame shame... I am going to miss it a lot...

I just went to the LightWiki to create an account and start browsing around but it appears to be nothing but broken links. Is it being maintained?

edit1 - Nevermind, it works but all of the hyperlinks are broken. For example, if I want to go to the tutorial section, the link takes me to http://www.lightwiki.com/Tutorial_ideas when it should take me to http://www.lightwiki.com/index.php?title=Tutorial_ideas .

I disagree with that , not lost forever , just being moved .

I have build into www.3Djunkies.net a new Lightwave database .

I am still tweaking atm , but it will also give users to upload there plugins rather than them just being url forwarded " you can do both"

Good to know if you are in search of support for LW 9x or older. But being as this thread is two years old there is no support for 11. I don't think there is any support for v10. And little to no support for 64bit.

I think I miss the tutorial section more than the plug in section.
