This is something I've wondered about... is it possible to use a sprite particle and not have it face the camera? If I wanted to do some effects that require the particle to be oriented away from the camera (IE: oval pillars of light), sprites are the best approach, right?

My thoughts on this would be to (a) create a oval shaped sprite or (b) stretch the HV's a little using the geometry tab. You can set the stretch direction there (most the time people use Velocity, but I've used Y to create stuff like M&M type candy, etc)

I dunno if you can have a sprite face away from the camera, given a sprite is like a flat polygon with an image mapped on it... Though maybe someone here can correct me on that one.

Hmm, I wonder if I could get around this problem by having double-sided flat objects which take the place of the particle...

I'll post again here in the coming week if I get any results.

Actually, yes - you could do that. Good idea if can't find an HV solution. :)
