I was wondering if I could get some advice on animating characters, specifically to do with bone rotations. When I start an animation my axes are neat and clear, but as I get further into my animation they get all jumbled up. Is there an essential tool or method I'm missing here? Perhaps a global rotate?

any advice would be welcomed,

It sounds like you're running into gimbal lock. Are you switching between the different co-ordinate options when rotating?

You could clean up your rotations in Graph Editor. In the GE you should see where your rotation values suddenly jump in value.

You could try using a plugin like this to correct your rotations:

Gimbal lock is exactly what I was running into. I read into a technique called nesting, and its working fine. Once I knew what it was called it was pretty easy to find a solution, thank you very much. Thanks for the plugin as well, I'm sure it will come handy.
