Hi all, I remember there was a way to make a fade in/fade out in Lightwave using the envelope in the compositing tab. I can't seem to get it to work. I know you could just parent a flat poly to the front of the camera, and do an object dissolve, but how do you do it through the compositing under effects?

You can envelope a forground image and fade. If you want a fade from black you create a forground image that is solid black and the open that image in the forground image field. You create a completely white image and load that into the forground alpha mask. Then when you adjust the forground disolve the 3D objects fade into and out of view. depending upon the percentage of the value in the disolve field or envelope. No need for creating 3D mask object to place infront of the camera. Remember that as this is a forground image, like a background image it will always be in front all objects and static, regardless of camera position, movement or angle.
