I'm on a project where i'm in charge of postproduction. It's a 2 to 4 min. long video about British columbia. However, my partners aren't that confident (or knowlegable) in the world of CG, and I'd like some tips on how to work with the beuacracy and make something that'll blow thier minds.

Render stills of what you have in mind, and post them in a powerpoint.
That should at least make the argument for you.

thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it turns out. In the mean time, this thread should be a brainstorming session for ideas for the video.

You can do a demo and hopefully "wow" them.
Or, you put try to bring them into the process and show them that they have some investment in the process. They could be reticent because they don't understand the process and feel they don't have any control. If you can demonstrate either that you can offer something creatively that they lack or that you can help them communicate their point, hopefully they will become more accommodating.

That is a great idea.
Do a making of a specific shot,
render each element in layers, and pass it to After Effects.

Here is a great one from DD

Either that, or they are actually knowledgeable in the field of human resource management.

You just expect people to randomly start throwing ideas out there for your video without even an initial starting point?

It was just an idea...
Also, I happen to be investing for After Effects right now, so I don't have access to that.

Like has been said pick a small element of it and really wow them with that, then show them how the techniques used in your element can but utilised for the rest of the video.

Pick an element that you know you can do well now and spend the time on that. Dont go to over the top or the bureaucrats will ask for more than can be practically delivered on time and on budget.

If anyone wants me to owe them a favor, I need a vectored file of B.C. That I can turn into a 3-D object.

Yeah, I love to brainstorm, but I've got to have something to start with.

In the absence of that, I'd like to suggest... spaceships and lens flares!

Sonic, we need more information. A vector image of the map? Full color topographic map? DEM map, interpreted in some way? Vector artwork of the words? In what text? Is there some official logo?

Based on your previous posts, I'm guessing your answer to my questions will be: "Seven! Now, help me!"
