How do you install lw on ubuntu and make plugins and rendernodes work?
kray seems to work and faster

Hi,

He is using WINE to run LightWave 32 bits inside Linux (can be Ubuntu, Fedora, etc..).

What I don't know how he managed it's to get the dongle recognized on WINE, last time I tried I couldn't find a solution to install the Sentinel Drivers.

And there is not WINE 64 bits yet. At least the versions I tried didn't worked fine on my Ubuntu. But at least Screamernet I think will work, because you don't need the Sentinel Drivers to run it. So the basic idea will be a Windows or Linux machine acting as a controller (with BNR or other renderfarm manager) and then your nodes with Ubuntu and WINE installed on it to run Screamernet.

Maybe a more advanced Ubuntu user than me knows how to do it.

I've just spent a couple of days trawling through various websites looking for an answer to the sentinel driver problem and can't find anything.

Previously I've always been a fan of the dongle approach but would happily look at alternatives if it meant I could run LW under Wine/Ubuntu.

very interesting and worth investigating.
This could be a cheap way to build a renderfarm.
h55 mobo with a/v/l, corei7 760, ubuntu, bnr nodes.
I'm guessing less than 400US per box.
