The LightWave manual is pretty sparse when it comes to IES lights, so I had to explore. It turns out that funny things happen when you change the light size, both in LW and in Kray.

Check it out for yourself! Does anyone have any clue as to why this happens - and is it a bug or a feature?

Cheers,
Thomas

The implementation of IES lights is a tease. It seems to suggest something we really, really need: A standard format for light definition across the industry. It's too bad the IES system is just there to randomly produce light effects within ranges of bewildering extremes.

looks to me like lightwave is handeling it better. As the light gets bigger it might need to be moved away from the wall to show the same pattern? Interesting.

Another thought - IES lights are suppose to represent real world lights, a given amount of light at a given size and shape so tweaking those perimeters kind of makes it a none real world light and might explain some of the handling differences when scaled. They look very similar at 100%.

They act like area lights when sized.
