I'm a motion graphics designer and have a budget of about £600 for LW plugins (don't want to go down the C4D route) or similar! AE in my main tool so don't need anything that the Trapcode suite does well (ie Particular).

Any suggestions that speeds up workflow in modelling/animation are welcome. Landscape generators, Zbrush, LWCAD, texturing apps, rigging..... I don't have any of these so keen to hear of any essentials that you might suggest for mograph.

...and it has to be Mac happy :)

I struggle with this myself. Pick up Mental FIsh's plug for transferring animation data: http://mentalfish.com/2009/08/lw-2-ae/

Yes, that is a cracker, and even better is that I still have £600 left

Also the key seems to be manipulating EXR render buffers. If you go this route, pick up exrTrader on the LW side and ProEXR on the AE side. Take a look at this thread: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?p=923194

Speeding up workflow?

Umm... you should look at FPrime. It's widely considered to be as close to "necessary" as any plugin ever is. It's not specifically to do with motion graphics at all, but it... well, just look at the vids in the second link:

For modeling one thing I still swear by is Vertibevel:

...but again it's not really anything to do with motion graphics, just a very helpful general tool.

You should check out the plugins from Denis here:

Especially Node Item Motion, Part Move and Poly Move are very interesting for motion graphics. They are all free as well.

Many thanks for your inputs! A bit of researching to do there first. I'm going to hold off on fprime for the moment until I've had a play with LW10 a bit more, the VPR looks good enough from what I can see at the moment.

I have exrTrader which has been really useful (I can also recommend Kat's Production Multipass tutorial over at liberty3d.com) but unfortunately Janus is PC only or I would definitely get that! DP kit is a total Godsend for the mograph work I've been doing (esp Shifter) but no Mac version of the DP stuff under Motion Options/Modifier - would love to complete one of bryphi77's tuts over on YouTube that use it.

Anything out there that helps me placing multiple objects in layout would also be useful? Array scripts, cloning etc...

Big thanks!

I still haven't installed LW10 so I can't comment, but verify that the VPR deals with Catmull–Clark, etc. properly.

I wish they would just hire Worley rather than re-invent the wheel, he seems to know what he's doing!
